Who is the SIGMA 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary for?

Thanks to its very compact size with a weight of only 370 g, the 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is a perfect lens for everyday shooting. It´s is exclusively for mirrorless cameras, compatible with full-frame cameras with a Sony E-mount or L-Mount.

Due to the fact that this lens is ultra-wide, it is perfectly suited for landscape photography, where you want get enough of the landscape into the photo, without having those tricky distortions. That ultra-wide angle is also perfect for interior photographers.

It is also particularly well-suited for astrophotography, owing to its very well-controlled sagittal coma flare. Achieving the highest level of optical performance even at the widest aperture setting of F2 from the center of the image to the periphery, the results are clear and sharp images even in the extreme corners of the frame. By focusing on the suppression of sagittal coma flare, accurate reproduction of very bright points of light has been achieved. This also provides extremely detailed results across the entire image, which is very important for night sky photography.

Of course, it is also perfect for those wide-angle portraits and wedding photography, thanks to its ultra-wide angle and compactness.

A First Impression of the SIGMA 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary

Landscape photographer and SIGMA Nordic Ambassador Kim Jenssen gave the new 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary a try, surrounded by mountains and northern lights. Since being a landscape photographer in the northern parts of Norway means hiking and being outside for about 5 hours at a time, he truly enjoyed the light weight and compact size of the 20mm F2 together with the SIGMA fp L mirrorless full-frame camera (with 61MP).

"- After spending some weeks with this very interesting and enjoyable optic I was so impressed with it; and the conclusion was that this lens fits perfectly for my landscape photography.", Kim says. "- With the SIGMA 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary I was able to capture enough information in the files to work with because I like to shoot wider as I need, then I can crop it in post-processing as I want.", he continues.

Commercial and Fashion photographer and SIGMA Nordic Ambassador Adam Klingeteg also gave the 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary a go, shooting some portrait photography both in daylight and darker environments with great results. With the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM | Art being his loyal companion, he immediately fell in love with the wider focal length of the 20mm F2.

"- Being able to get just a bit wider experience through the 20mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary  made me give a lot more thought into every shot. It gives you a bit of perspective distortion of the object you’re shooting depending on what angle you shoot it from which you can gain so much advantage from this—capturing a wider scene and playing around with lines in a personal way.", Adam says.

Professional photographer Magnus Winbjörk lives in the northern parts of Sweden, shooting the most beautiful landscape photo after the other, with northern lights and wildlife included. He fell for the 20mm F2's small and compact size, its high build quality and the fast and precise autofocus. With sharp and contradistinctive results already at the largest aperture and very good results out in the corners from around F4-F5.6 depending on the focusing distance.

"- 20mm is my personal favorite when it comes to focal lengths in the wide-angle range. Just enough to get a large scope, but not too wide to get those tricky distortions.", Magnus says.
